Notes:Clevely could live again as a centre for GPs Jan 31 2009
The old Clevely Hospital in Feilding might see new life yet, with owners the MidCentral District Health Board eyeing it as a possible future home for the town's GPs and other primary health services.
Midwifery shortages prompted the closure of the hospital's maternity unit in May 2003 and after protracted consultation the board decided to close the geriatric wards, built in 1983, at the end of March three years ago.
Since then some of its community services have maintained a base there, pending decisions on whether to dispose of the property. The board declared the site surplus to its needs last year, but has put a hold on any further action while the GP- centre option is explored.
The availability of the former hospital could revive plans to draw all the town's GPs together on one site after initial costings for a purpose- built facility appeared prohibitive.
