- In 1887 he joined the Christchurch Office of the South British Insurance Company. In 1890 he was transferred to the Hobart Office. In 1892 he was transferred to Auckland and later that year to Christchurch as Chief Clerk. In 1902 he removed to Head Office where he remained until his retirement in 1933.
