- Dave changed his name by "Deed Poll" to David Kenneth Dawson (after his foster mother - who had looked after him for many years). Prior to the marriage to S. Eden.
My brother Robert in Feb 2004, when asked about Dad, said that he used to live 3 houses away from them with his natural mother, (possible Maggie Reynolds?) and his Aunty Kathy (Dad's future Adoptive sister) made mention about this snotty nosed boy (the age gap approx 10 - 15 years) from a few doors along the road. His mother could not look after him properly, and Nana Dawson took pity on him. It would explain the name change. Robert said as far as he knew Dad was adopted by Nana Dawson when he was about 3 or 4 years old. ?? NOT TRUE!! So it seems that his Birth mother may have moved to abel smith street Wellington when he was young. (who with?? what number). Robert seemed to think Dawsons lived at about number 16 or so. Will need to check old Electoral Rolls.
David Reynolds was born at 263 Bealey Avenue Halswell, Christchurch, Was fostered out to Mrs Dawson, who took in unwanted children, (??? a story from my mother shirley) had other members in this (Dawson) family also fostered/adopted.
His mother Maggie Serena Reynolds was 23 at the time of his birth unmarried.
Have finally got copy of Birth Certificate and natural father is listed as:
Percy Dennis MAHONEY, 65 - - - saph St, Christchurch,
