A newspaper account of George Campbell says " The death of Mr. George Thomson Campbell who came out in the 'Marie Bahn' in 1872 occurred at his home in Lindisfarme in his 68th year. On his arrival in New Zealand he went from Dunedin to Milton and for several years acted as a journalist on the 'Bruce Herald' with the original proprietors. Deaceased left his proffession to enter into sawmilling and was connected with the trade until about two months before his death. He was a well known figure in the timber trade in Otago and Southland and his death will be regretted by a large circle of friends. He leaves a widow and family of three sons and six daughters. His sons George, Robert and John are engaged in sawmilling in the North Island and his six daughters are all married".

Dear Uncle Jack we are sorry we didn't have an opportunity to say Goodbye. We did come to visit last Sunday, and suspected that you were unwell when you were not at home. We had been looking forward to celebrating your 90th next month. Now you can rest in peace with Aunty Lena, Nana and Grandad and your three siblings. Our sympathies go out to all our cousins and their families. Lorraine and Deidre x

So sad to hear of Jack's passing.
What an interesting person he was, so much knowledge lost.
To John, Judith, Robyn, Jacquie, and all his large close family, also to Lorna, you have my deepest sympathy. He has left a huge hole in your lives that only time can heal. Thinking of you all. Source www.tributes.co.nz | Abbott, Wilfred Francis James (I14159)
